THE END OF WHAT SHE KNOWS, a novel in progress

harper.jpg

The pitch: Harper is a lonely dog sitter. Conrad needs someone to take care of his missing wife’s dog. They form an uneasy friendship and then relationship until she begins to suspect that he’s responsible for his wife’s death.

Harper has a problem. Newly widowed after losing her husband of twenty years, she is doing her best to navigate her new life. Dog-sitting, stealing mementos from her client’s homes, and working at the local police station. Then her new friend Laura disappears.

Conrad Karras is Laura’s husband. A bit of a recluse, he makes watches from old mechanisms and tries to stay positive that Laura will be found. But he harbors a secret that he is loath to share, even after he and Harper bond over Laura’s dog and her disappearance.

When Harper finds a letter from Laura, she begins to suspect that Conrad was involved in whatever happened to Laura. But when the police declare Laura dead, Harper must prove on her own that Laura was murdered, putting her own life in danger.

The End of What She Knows is my current work-in-progress. It is an upscale women's literary fiction novel that takes place in Bisbee, Arizona, an old mining town with secrets of its own.
